Show HN: Wreeto – Knowledge management for software engineers
- bnj 6y agoI love the public sharing link, this is something I’m often looking for and wishing for and it seems like lots of the knowledge management solutions skip over it
- nuclid 6y agoThe FAQ page renders empty for me... Does this software come with an offline client? How does it compare to obsidian.md?
- cvicpp 6y agoSorry about that, I am currently updating it and I will upload some questions the following days. There's an open source instance you can self-host on your home server or work, but there's also a cloud version. About obsidian.md now, it's a great, smart and extensible piece of software but its type of usage is slightly different from wreeto. I don't know If obsidian.md has a cloud or a server version to be honest. Plus the roadmaps of the two (will upload wreeto's as well) is different.
- taviso 6y agoThanks, I wasn't aware of obsidian. I had tried out dnote because it's commandline first. I suppose you could argue you can just use standard tools with obsidian, so maybe I'll try that too.
- slightwinder 6y agoWhat does this make "for software engineers"? The feature-list looks like any other note-manager.
- cvicpp 6y agoMarkdown syntax support is not something you find in mainstream apps (most non tech people use WYSIWYG editors which is also provided). Code syntax highlighting as well and a lot of other things in the roadmap that I will be happy to share (mentioned in github but will uploaded in the main website as well). Also and most important: created and used for everyday actions by a senior software engineer (myself) with 12+ years of experience in the industry. What would you expect to see? You can openly suggest things which can be added to the roadmap.
- slightwinder 6y ago> Markdown syntax support is not something you find in mainstream apps (most non tech people use WYSIWYG editors which is also provided). Not true at all. Unless you define mainstream as the Old Granny who doesn't even know how a mouse works. > Code syntax highlighting as well and a lot of other things in the roadmap that I will be happy to share (mentioned in github but will uploaded in the main website as well). syntax highlighting doesn't make it for software-guys. That's something you get for free with most editors these days anyway. > Also and most important: created and used for everyday actions by a senior software engineer (myself) with 12+ years of experience in the industry. So there is nothing... > What would you expect to see? You can openly suggest things which can be added to the roadmap. A tool dedicated for a specific trade, should offer the tools used by this trade. Syntax highlighting is not what makes a software developer. Development is about planning software, analyzing and discovering software, writting software and building software. So any funcitonallity for this, besides the basic features anyone has, would justify calling it "for software engineers". Things like creating diagrams, navigating code, creating & tangling code, executing code, customizing the environment... At least to be able to write plugins or call external scripts for doing something with a document is the the least I except with a dedicated tool for this trade.
- cvicpp 6y agoWell thank you for your suggestions, there are some really good ideas, I will do a research about the functionalities you mention and update the roadmap accordingly. Some things can be provided by third party integrations, I guess there is no need to re-invent the wheel.
