Ask HN: Which Password Manager are you using?
Which password manager are you using and why?
- misterioss 6y ago1password, good integration between devices, didn't hear about data leaks.
- codemusings 6y agoKeePassXC synced with Nextcloud to all my devices. On iOS I use KeePassTouch.
- alpaca128 6y agoKeePassXC. It just works smoothly and makes it easy to manage the password database files myself. Also works on the phone in a pinch.
- korantu 6y agoBitWarden, for sweet spot between being open-source, and hosted. Also, cheap , well-thought out and has responsive support.
- mdre 6y agoBitwarden, free tier is more than enough for me, great user experience, works on all platforms and in the browser.
- decasteve 6y agopass: https://www.passwordstore.org/ https://www.passwordstore.org/ Reason: command line simplicity
- a_bored_husky 6y agoIt also has a mobile app and a Firefox addon

- mehs 6y agoEnpass: https://www.enpass.io/ https://www.enpass.io/ Started using it because of one time payment and Dropbox sync. They switch to subscription model but I still find it quite usable.
- kevinherron 6y ago1Password. It’s really polished and works well everywhere I need it. There’s a Linux version in beta now, but even before that the browser extension available on Linux was all I really needed.
- warpspin 6y ago1Password. I love where we can share accounts within the company, while I can also share some with my wife, between our computers and iPads.
- priom 6y agoMyki https://myki.com/ https://myki.com/ for Personal, it has no master password and has 2FA built-in And Lastpass for Teams
- jamesponddotco 6y agoI use a wrapper[1] for the CLI version of 1Password. I spend most of my day staring at terminal windows, and it is where I prefer to work, so a CLI password manager was the natural choice. As for why I replaced pass(1) with it, I now have a team that I need to share passwords with, and 1Password offers a perfect user experience for everyone. I will probably move to a self-hosted solution at some point, but for now, 1Password is perfect — we do use the Enterprise edition though, so your experience may be different. - antoineMoPa 6y agoA gpg encrypted file.
- approxim8ion 6y agoKeepassXC on desktop Linux + KeepassDX on Android, database synced using Syncthing. Reasons: Just works, (almost) never has to rely on clipboard, no browser add-on needed, doesn't rely on Android's autofill system (which is buggy, at least on my old phone), is an established open-source standard that I can continue to use for years without fear of a "service" closing up shop and disappearing off the face of the earth.
- aleksan 6y agoHardware password manager (Trezor). But the console client is lack and it only works through Chrome browser on the cloud for storage. Looking for something else, but it's better than a software password app
- awareBrah 6y agoI used to use 1password but to get newest version I need to pay again. Exported and switched over to Lastpass which just works. I love it.
- cybert00th 6y agoRoboform - been using it since 2000-ish. It handles websites and Windows authentication prompts - both from web apps and native programs. Use it on Win 10 and Android
- iameoghan 6y agoBitwarden. Works everywhere & has OTP on the super affordable premium plan. Could not do anything without it now.
- kennethko 6y agoBitwarden. They're open-source, support was always responsive, and they share their security assessments[0][1] for perusal. Before Bitwarden, I was using KeepassX for years. Over time, the database syncing was becoming an annoyance for me and I was looking for a hosted solution that I could also recommend to non-technical friends and family. - _benj 6y agoBitwarden here. I recently switched from 1password and I couldn't be happier. Clean, simple, affordable.
- dusted 6y agoI'm using this one, because I built it: https://finalkey.net/ https://finalkey.net/ it's open sauce and all, so you can build one if you want, its' awesome. [edit] I built it so I could use it, I made it to be exactly how I want.
- sharmi 6y agoLastpass
- bwb 6y ago1password
- pdxpatzer 6y agoPasswordSafe (pwsafe.org) plus dropbox on Windows. pwSafe2 (app77 LLC) on Mac and iphone. I favor a smaller program that has been audited and has less attack surface.
