With the new generation of cards from Nvidia being significantly worse for GPGPU scientific compute I hope AMD moves into that market and is truly an Nvidia killer. The new Nvidia cards not only consume far more power and space making 4-GPU workstations on normal power supplies and household power impractical but they are also far worse for memory constrained processes. Clearly they are trying to force researchers to buy much more expensive "enterprise" cards for no good reason.
- pram 6y agoI think the “compute” oriented AMD cards with HBM are still going to be based on 7nm Vega. RDNA seems to primarily be for video games. So that is to say, they might be going down the same exact path.
