Microsoft earnings: Revenue up 12% YoY. Net Income up 30% YoY
- manishsharan 6y agoMicrosoft Azure is fast becoming the de facto cloud choice for a lot of enterprises that fear Amazon's might. I work in Banking and AWS is persona non grata. If you bring up AWS as an option, you risk getting fired.
- thecopy 6y agoWhy?
- ffpip 6y ago> a lot of enterprises that fear Amazon's might
- ksec 6y agoYou dont want your competitor to earn as much or have your infrastructure held hostage. For example Walmart would likely prefer Google or better yet Microsoft Azure as they dont compete in any segment. The same goes to UPS, Fedex and DHL. Also lots of other retailers.
- kyawzazaw 6y agoBut why banking industry?
- ksec 6y agoSomebody answered it above. Microsoft have zero intention, zero incentives, zero interest in Banking, Finance or Insurance. Even if they have such a thought right now, nothing they are doing have shown it. Amazon has a clear vision, records, and chances to enter those segment. Selling Health, Car insurance, Banking, Credit Card to their Amazon Prime Member. That is the problem with being a platform. It is the same reason why business dislike what Apple are doing with their services and IAP.
- edmundsauto 6y agoWhy is aws seen as a banking industry competitor?
- manishsharan 6y agoYes. The senior execs believe it is only a matter of time before Amazon enters this market with financial products. The main barriers to entry for banking are regulatory requirements and capital. Neither of these is a problem for Amazon. And Amazon can leverage its superior technology platforms, data analytics and AI capabilities to make a significant impact. And Amazon does have a mighty appetite.
- gigel82 6y agoAnd yet the stock price is down 5% ; I don't know how the market works...
- HappySweeney 6y agoI havn't looked at the release, but in my experience, this is due to negative forward guidance.
