Windows 10 update removes Flash and prevents it from being reinstalled
- hilbert42 6y agoUsing Flash is not a good idea, however if it's a legitimate Windows program then I should be able to install and run it. What right has Microsoft got to dictate what I run on my PC? It's none of Microsoft's business. I recall Cory Doctorow lecturing about this around 2012 and warning that the computing platforms we users use would in effect soon cease to be our own. Now his predictions have come true. We're continuing to see a never-ending creep away from being able to to fully own and control our computing equipment. This is serious for many reasons that most will know, so I won't repeat them here. With Flash, I wonder what will happen when people who absolutely depends on Flash—and there'll still be a few for whatever reason—can no longer run their code. It seems to me they'd have perfectly acceptable right to sue Microsoft for deliberately nuking their PCs. I'm really pleased that I do not use Windows 10, I stopped at Win 7 and have never looked back (nowadays, Linux is so much more user-friendly).
