I'm convinced that the best way is to have a beer with someone and to get them to start ranting about the bugs they've had to catch and resolve. The more swearing about the technical stuff, the more confident I am about that they solved it. I'm more interested in hearing about the problem solving in the contexts that they've worked through, what they learned, and their experience over all. Experience is universal. Telling someone to get 3 values of a list that create the high product isn't going to solve your production issue on a saturday night.
