'Sleeping giant' Arctic methane deposits starting to release, scientists find
- HenryKissinger 6y agoIs this the clathrate gun I've heard so much about?
- AtlasBarfed 6y agoGod I hope not. Mass methane release is an extinction level danger, and I believe there is geological research to back that up.
- skoskie 6y agoIf only we had known sooner.
- NiceWayToDoIT 6y agoIn case your line is not sarcasm, we knew about it long time ago. This was warning 7 years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kx1Jxk6kjbQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kx1Jxk6kjbQ Current amount of methane in atmosphere approximately 5Gt, methane stored in permafrost amounts from 100 - 1000 Gt ... which if it melts means Game Over with instant K.O.
- tartoran 6y agoNaive question, could this be somehow harnessed with large sheets of some material that forms a large blanket, compressed and stored into very large containers? Since it is all in a known location, yes I know, the vast Arctic, but it appears the danger is so high that something has to be done, at least tried. The world’s popularion should all be working on this! I am terrified of what future may bring, I have a small kid myself, what are we getting the next generation into?
