The NY markets have been stuck in a tug-of-war between stubborn sellers and recalcitrant buyers for decades - a situation exacerbated by parties on both sides sunk-costing their heels in and refusing to budge. Something had to give, maybe this is it. It's not helped any by the fact that NY is the only place in the country with it's own bespoke listings cartel. source: was an agent for Brown Harris.
