I wouldn’t answer what I make now, but I would happily tell a recruiter what I want to make. If you do your homework and find out what the upper bands are for the role, you can ask for the top of the band and usually get it. One thing to understand is that, for big companies, most of the people involved in the hiring chain really want to make the hire and don’t care that much what you get paid, as long as it’s not way above everyone else.
