Advocating for decentralization feels like presenting filter bubbles and echo chambers as a positive feature.
- keiferski 6y agoNo, it means advocating for independent methods of verification that aren’t controlled by biased, unelected, unaccountable corporate entities.
- tqi 6y agoWouldn't decentralization just give people the option to choose from several different biased, unelected, unaccountable corporate entities?
- keiferski 6y agoSure, but then people have options, and entities are forced to be competitive.
- tqi 6y agoBut critically, the entities are not competing for the same audience. People are not choosing between Fox News and MSNBC, people are choosing between Fox News and Brietbart. While it would seem like there is an opportunity for a service that caters to the middle, in reality I think people largely prefer to have their world views and priors confirmed rather than challenged.
