The US put japanese people in in concentration camps and most US citizens supported it. Does this put most US citizens on par with Nazis who gassed and experimented on Jewish people? No. It does not. Americans did it out of fear, not out of evil.
There is a huge difference here. When you say genocide, it is equivalent to holocaust. When you say concentration camp it's equivalent to gitmo at worst or the japanese concentration camps. Both could be happening but one is drastically worse than the other and genocide needs confirmation.
- seppin 6y ago> Your spin of "it's not the same as the holocaust" (no one said it is) and "yeah but whatabout the US!" is sadly par for the course. > The US put japanese people in in concentration camps and most US citizens supported it. Amazing, your lack of self-awareness. Your deflection and whataboutism can't even let up for a second. In case you need yet another reminder, this thread is about Chinese camps. > There is a huge difference here. When you say genocide, it is equivalent to holocaust You are saying this. You. You are pushing the argument to the extreme ("everything is a holocaust") to discredit what is actually being said ("these are mass interment camps with systemic violence and arbitrary punishment"). It's an argumentation technique that doesn't work when the other person knows what's happening.
- nendroid 6y agoWhat's going on here is you're misusing the word genocide. See the comment in the other thread. Genocide is mass killings, not mass sterilizations. If you get very technical you can call a sterilization a killing but that's just a deliberate misuse of the term. When someone hears the word genocide they hear slaughter. They don't hear oh that population was sterilized. Let's not be stupid about this.
- seppin 6y ago> You are pushing the argument to the extreme ("everything is a holocaust") to discredit what is actually being said ("these are mass interment camps with systemic violence and arbitrary punishment") I'm not going to continue talking to someone that cannot read and respond properly.
- nerdtime 6y agoI am responding properly. What's going on your misguided usage of the word genocide. You're throwing down a huge word and then claiming you're talking about sterilization rather then slaughter. It's manipulation through and through. You know what people think when you use the word genocide yet you still use it based off of a technicality on how some sources define the word. It's like anti abortionists calling abortion clinics murder clinics. Yeah technically abortion clinics are murdering babies but let's be real.... you are not an idiot, when you say the word genocide you are purposely evoking overtones of the holocaust and mass slaughter. You know mass slaughter is not happening but you use the word to promote your agenda then fall back on the technicality when you're called out on it. I called you out on it by saying that mass slaughter isn't happening in China and claim by "genocide" you mean mass sterilization and that I'm taking things to the extreme. No. I'm not doing that. Bottom line: You're just being manipulative and playing word games. You could have easily specified that you meant mass sterilization very very early on in the conversation the minute I brought up "slaughter"... yet you chose not to because this is your stupid game. Let's be real, you lost the argument and now you're running away by insulting me rather then defending your own point. I don't blame you, there's nothing left to defend anyway.
