They will have missed Monaco, as they only looked at the 150 most populated cities. When I was there around the millennium it was the clear leader in police officers per head of population, so I expect it’s also doing well on cameras.
- eunos 6y agoMaybe that's because Monaco is touristy place.
- smnrchrds 6y agoWhich raises the question: should one look at cameras per 1000 resident population or cameras per 1000 people present, whether resident or tourist?
- eunos 6y agoFor most places, the number of tourists won't affect much the equation. Only in a few famous microstates, for example, Monaco and the Vatican that this skew could happen. That reminds me that I read once that Vatican's crime per capita looks very horrendous if it is based on crime/resident, but most crimes occurred are petty like pickpockets targetting tourists.
- vkou 6y agoThe reason they missed it, is because their data is complete rubbish. This is the source for their chart. [1] It claims that NYC has a mere 31,490 cameras. As anyone who's ever been in NYC will tell you, that is complete and utter nonsense.
