How China is getting its farmers to kick their antibiotics habit
- cwwc 6y ago> in 2013, China consumed nearly half the world’s antibiotics — 162,000 tonnes, 52% of which was administered to animals1. Such widespread use of antibiotics is a cause for concern. It is indeed. Curious what the US usage/percentage is.
- jfengel 6y agoAccording to the New England Journal of Medicine, 80% of antibiotics in the US are used in animals. https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp1311479 https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp1311479 But that's less total antibiotics, which totals only around 18,000 tonnes. (Assuming that the data are comparable, which I wouldn't guarantee.)
