If you're going to let foreign adversaries collect compromat and pump it into your election cycle the reasonable expectation is that the candidates who win are the ones that will comply with the requests of the foreign adversary. I agree that trying to censor the story is an ineffective method of preventing this kind of foreign interference in US elections, but we need a realistic alternative before we abandon it.
Also to be clear, the veracity of the story is far from certain - between Fox refusing to take the story, and the WSJ having it's news division basically fact check its opinion division this isn't some clear case.
- tomp 6y agoWhat do you mean “foreign adversaries”? The story is based on a laptop which has always been in the US.
- chillwaves 6y agoIt's based on data that is of unknown origin. Maybe it came from the laptop (which is also of unknown origin) or maybe it came from somewhere else. None of this information has been validated despite the FBI being in possession of the hard drives since Dec 2019. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/hunter-biden-laptop-new-york-post-story/ https://www.cbsnews.com/news/hunter-biden-laptop-new-york-po... Manipulating people based on some kind of political wish fulfillment seems like disinfo 101 to me.
