Far-Right Groups Are Behind Most U.S. Terrorist Attacks, Report Finds
- WarOnPrivacy 6y agoBefore 1980, left wing groups were responsible for most US domestic terror attacks. After the Pentagon Papers hit in 1971, the FBI transitioned away from bulk domestic surveillance & toward law enforcement. By 1975, domestic attacks were down to a single digit percentage of 1970 levels. US right wing groups have mostly dominated FBI's terror stats since 1990 (unsure if before). I tend to omit the perps who were clearly mentally ill and FBI's handcrafted terror plots. While that doesn't change the numbers overly much, it does help clarify the actuality. sidebar: Trying to make the case that only LW or RW stats matter seems especially dumb to me. History and reality are what they are. other sidebar: It's been a decade since FBI (literally) officially abandoned it's law enforcement mandate, to pursue the perks that come with a national security mission. It doesn't seemed to have made us any safer.
- rbecker 6y ago> white supremacist groups were responsible for 41 of 61 “terrorist plots and attacks” in the first eight months of this year, or 67 percent. So about the same as the share of the white population. Or do we only normalize by population numbers when it comes to police killings?
- Arnt 6y agoPay attention to the complete phrase. "White groups" ≠ "white supremacist groups".
- knaq 6y agoThe bias is in which incidents get left out, which cases of self-defense are flipped to claim the defender is the violent one, and which FBI-instructed bumbling idiots are attributed to each side. Spot checking it, I'm finding those flaws. This report has an agenda to push.
