China has built almost 400 new camps since 2017, while new testimonies have emerged alleging slave labour, forced sterilisations and organ harvesting taking place inside the camps too.
- gremlinsinc 6y agoThis is def. bad, though I feel somewhat hypocritical, since we're doing forced sterilizations here too... definitely it needs to stop in China AND the USA. https://www.npr.org/2020/09/18/914465793/ice-a-whistleblower-and-forced-sterilization https://www.npr.org/2020/09/18/914465793/ice-a-whistleblower...
- CobrastanJorji 6y agoWhile what's going on in the US is definitely bad, that appears so far to be an isolated incident involving a small number of individuals, and, while terrible, it's not really at the same scale as China's organized organ harvesting of minorities and dissidents. Evil is evil, and clearly the U.S. has done wrong, but whataboutism like this reads as an effort to dismiss the issue.
- onei 6y agoI'm trying to avoid downplaying this, but the articles linked from your link suggest this is primarily the actions of a single doctor. It seems possible this is an opportunistic individual taking advantage of the migrants who don't speak the language. The practice is obviously abhorrent wherever it happens, but it's not an exact comparison.
- beervirus 6y agoIt’s been a month and there’s no confirmation whatsoever. I’m leaning toward this story being fake news.
- golem14 6y agoI have read this too, but no further elaboration in the press, and I wonder why. Was it just hyperbole, or is the story being actively suppressed?
- agent00f 6y ago> alleging slave labour Just to address the first item, this is referring to (ie all sourced from) the ASPI report, which is literally murdoch media. It's actually quite instructive to look at how it spread via rest of the media ecosystem from that one piece of agitprop. Also pretty comical that the ostensibly "educated" tech people are no harder to manipulate than the fox news audience.
