This seems somewhat shortsighted. Couldn't we have said the same thing about general relativity and QM? Which now have relevant implications for GPS and chip design. Couldn't a more thorough understanding of particle physics be relevant to things like nano-materials or better understanding superconductivity or possibly additional ways to contain plasma for fusion?
