Ask HN: Which company would you miss the most if it would go out of business?
- h2odragon 6y agoBic.[1] The cigarette lighter folks. Their lighters are such a ubiquitous, wonderful tool that humanity forgot just how big a deal fire is. [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soci%C3%A9t%C3%A9_Bic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soci%C3%A9t%C3%A9_Bic
- fsflover 6y agohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purism_(company) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purism_(company) One of the rare companies respecting the freedom and privacy of users. One of the largest innovators in the field of mobile phones.
- aynyc 6y agoPatagonia.
- giantg2 6y agoProbably the one I work for since that's who's paying my bills.
- Jemaclus 6y agoCoca-Cola. I really like soda. I have zero vices other than my love for soda. I don't drink alcohol or smoke or anything like that. It's just soda. So if Coke went out of business, I'd be devastated.
- rmb177 6y agoI'm 33 days free from soda. Man, could I go for a Coke/Pepsi right now. But I shall persevere!
- Jemaclus 6y agoI'm actually caffeine-free for over a year. (I drink Sprite and other non-caffeinated sodas.) The first few days was AWFUL, but after that I didn't miss it much. It turns out I enjoy drinking stuff, but water gets really boring and it's too hot for tea right now, so soda it is!
- partisan 6y agoConsider drinking seltzer. Canada Dry is surprisingly good. Let it get really cold in your refrigerator. For some reason, it tends to have a better bite and stays fizzy longer when it's opened while colder (Sources needed). Seltzer helped me to quit a Pepsi habit in college and while I occasionally drink soda, it tends to taste super sweet now to the point of not really tasting good to me anymore.
- Jemaclus 6y agoConsidered and rejected! I can't stand seltzer or sparkling water with no flavor. And stuff like La Croix doesn't have enough flavor to overpower the bitterness of the carbonation. So nope, not a fan. Glad you enjoy it, though! :)

- Jemaclus 6y agoNOOOOO, SAY IT AIN'T SO!!
- JoeAltmaier 6y agoWe'd all probably miss "The Compass Group", the world's largest restaurant holding company. Never heard of it? Dozens of restaurant chains would be gone.
- juniorseniordev 6y agoSpotify
- jjdin14 6y agoGoogle
- vectorboost 6y agoMozilla, I actually got a bit angry with some of their products lately (namely the Firefox) and stopped using it. But without it it would be kind of Chromium everywhere world.
