JE and BE are coded differently and have inherent differences in many gameplay mechanics. MS already owns Mojang so already there's nothing stopping them theoretically to make the two versions compatible. Requiring users to have a MS account won't change that.
- codeyperson 6y agoI think mcv may have meant that the single Microsoft account could give access to both versions. Currently I believe if you have Mojang account for the Java version, you cannot use that account to access the Bedrock version.
- cesarb 6y agoAlso, Minecraft is expensive (at the current price and exchange rates, it's 15% of the minimum wage here), and currently you have to buy the Java and Bedrock editions separately. If this change means that you can use the same account for the Java Edition and the Bedrock Edition, that means you're getting the other edition for free. What worries me is if this change is a prelude to adding some sort of copy protection to the Java edition (beyond requiring a valid account login before downloading the game or connecting to a server).
- mcv 6y agoThey don't have to be compatible, but if they both require the same account, I hope that means a single account will be valid for both. Someone with Java Edition would also be able to play Bedrock Edition.
