Psychotherapy centre's database hacked, patient info held ransom
- LinuxBender 6y agoThat's crazy. How do the patients feel about this?
- rebuilder 6y agoThis is very recent and no patients have come forward AFAIK. They'd probably have little cause to draw attention to themselves at this point, although I imagine lawsuits are forthcoming if the justice system doesn't handle this in a way that sees serious damages awarded to the patients. Personally, I'd imagine they feel mortified. This pretty much seems like the worst-case scenario for leaked personally identifiable data.
- rebuilder 6y agoThe English coverage is not up to date, but the TL;DR is that someone is demanding 40 BTC, from a large Finnish psychotherapy provider, in ransom to not release patient records. They claim to have 40,000 records and have released over 200 records, which seem genuine. The records include names, addresses, social security numbers and, of course, highly intimate details of the patients' personal lives and mental health.
