To be fair Google libraries are famously hard to build and integrate. It doesn't help that they use their own build system, though it seems gRPC can be built with CMake now. It's a good number of years since I did it last, but integrating gRPC was one of the worst experiences I ever had integrating a dependency (on Windows at least).
