So. Much. This. For non technical users, the friction involved in setting up new accounts is a bit too much. Anecdotally: my tech-handicapped friends all used hangouts. I suggested discord, but everyone wanted to continue using something they were familiar with. Once they did get Discord and discovered how easy it was to start conversations.... nobody went back to hangouts.
