This articles sorely misses the point of target demographics and use cases. I don't like Skype, but still use it pervasively for basic business communications. My aging parents use all sorts of technology, even with their grandkids, and Discord is not on the list. 'Gaming' is a very key, central social aspect to Discord and I'm doubtful that it would exist to such a degree of popularity without it. Also - despite the fact that it is, indeed quite good ... it's also complicated.
