- tzs 15y agoThey said the Social Security card was not be used for identification. They didn't say the number could not be so used. See: http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/141/why-does-my-old-social-security-card-say-it-cant-be-used-as-id http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/141/why-does-my-old...
- plainOldText 15y agoFrom the above article: "As a result of all these changes, the "not to be used for identification" line was dropped from the cards and a lot of places will accept them as proof of identity. You just can't call them national identity cards, or at least the feds can't, because if they do the right wing will freak." Reminds me of the old adage: "If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then it is a duck"
