The TXT DNS record for dns.google refers to Xkcd
- undecisive 6y agoThat's pretty hilarious and awful in equal measure. I mean, does that now constitute an official Google announcement? In case they hurriedly change this, dns.google's txt record currently points to https://xkcd.com/1361/ https://xkcd.com/1361/ which "announces" that Google will shut down all services except their core service, 8.8.8.8 (which is what dns.google points to) But don't worry, it's just a joke, Google isn't likely to close popular services on a whim - oh, wait...
- pul 6y agoI don't think they'll hurriedly change this though. It's a nerd joke for nerds, so it's probably able to slip by PR.
- LinuxBender 6y agoI did something like this once and it backfired. Well not the first time and certainly would not be the last... but instead of suppressing the version response of our DNS servers, I set it to a Monty Python quote. A customer lost their mind that someone would dare do such a thing and not give the exact version of bind we were running. I told our CSM they could just ask for the version and I would be happy to share. Nowadays that is not so taboo.
