I learned to Shut Up when Learning
- TheDesolate0 6y agoDon't shut up. Take nobody's word for it. Always ask questions.
- m0llusk 6y agoActive listening and participation might be even better. Reiterate the material directly to the teacher (You mean it might work better like this?) and then make a quick draft of what that might look like. In this case the header and footer could be clipped or resized and then working with the modified application might generate additional insights.
- docuru 6y agoI think that would be an good response
- wombatmobile 6y agoI never learnt to shut up because I was always smarter than everyone else in the room. Now, as an old man, I have little money, few friends, and no significant achievements to be proud of. Just now, when I read this article, I realised that my whole life could have been different if I'd just learnt to stop talking at a few key points, and listened more. I am old, but I am not dead yet. What do you think I should do now?
- docuru 6y agoHey, I have no position and knowledge about you to answer. One thought crossed my mind: I love reading about lessons in life, works, etc. I bet many people love it too. Have you ever think about write, share your advice? You have the advantage of being old. I bet you have lots to share for younger generations if it ever interests you Best!
- thdc 6y agoThe important part here is the > thin line between explaining and talking back Because we don't have the actual contents of the discussion that took place, we can't really say who was out of line here (as an aside, I think teachers should be more willing to listen to counter points considering the profession). I also would not say "Shut Up when Learning" because of this experience because, as noted, the line differs from person to person. Active learning is supposedly one of the best processes out there (it was emphasized a lot during my training as a tutor for a cs course).
- docuru 6y agoI agree. Using "when learning" doesn't sounds appropriate. Maybe "when receving advice" would be more accurate?
