Also take into account the latitudes for sailing versus motoring. I don't know what shipping corridors typically are for diesel-powered cargo ships, but I doubt they go down to the tradewinds. On the other hand, a 650' cargo ship can handle a lot more weather than a 40' sailing sloop or catamaran, so perhaps sailing the North Atlantic is more feasible.
