Software is more akin to building roads. Data is more akin to the knowledge in books. As long as we can read 100 year old data sets we will be fine. Truly important software will adopt new technologies while old technologies will fade away. There aren’t many 100 year old roads that exist without being regularly rebuilt. Surely none with any regular usage.
