Paraphrasing for a HN comment I saw a while back. A reverse chronological feed of your friends’ posts is a platform. A recommendation engine is a publisher. That makes a lot of sense to me.
- amadeuspagel 6y agoI don't agree. A recommendation engine can (and should) be completely neutral.
- moron4hire 6y agoThe entire point of a recommendation engine is to not be neutral, but to induce some kind of bias. Otherwise, you'd be seeing random entries, not recommended ones.
- amadeuspagel 6y agoA neutral recommendation engine is one that simply recommends things that I'll probably like, based on other things I liked without any human interference.
- moron4hire 6y agoA human had to program it, so there is no such thing as "without human interference".
- amadeuspagel 6y agoDo things like neutral law, rule of law not men, etc. mean something to you? Would you also say that that's nonsense because humans created the law?
- moron4hire 6y agoNow you're getting it!
