This is something we're actively looking to change with Crunchy Bridge (https://www.crunchydata.com/products/crunchy-bridge/ https://www.crunchydata.com/products/crunchy-bridge/). We've started with PL/R and PL/Python in addition to the standard set of extensions. We're in the process of evaluating our next set of extensions including pg_repack, zhparser, pgroonga, and possibly pgsync. Longer term we're exploring the ability to bring your own and already have some thoughts on how to make that possible.
