I think this is one of those "rule of cool" things. Though I will say, sure IG-88 may have been better at shooting accurately, but his response to being surrounded in the first episode was to initiate a self-destruct. Whereas you have Mando showing some higher-level thinking and turns an "unwinnable" fight into a winnable one.
