- GordonS 6y agoYep, so the answer to the GP's question is "no". This is one of the biggest PITAs with hosted Postgres - you can't just use whatever extensions you want, or indeed whatever version of those extension. Invariably AWS and Azure (presumably GCP too, I haven't used it) have only the most popular extensions available, and invariably woefully outdated versions.
- petergeoghegan 6y agopg_stat_activity isn't an extension -- it's a standard system view
- GordonS 6y agoI don't know how you figure that - the article describes it as a "plugin", which fore Postgres generally means "extension". I just checked the github repo too - pg_stat_monitor is definitely an extension, not merely a view (it includes views that build on top of the standard pg_stat_statements extension).

- sbuttgereit 6y agoI think you may be talking past each other. @petergeoghegan referenced pg_stat_activity which is a system view; now his response to you is definitely a non-sequitur, but he's right. Now of course your statement about pg_stat_monitor is correct, too. But you missed when you questioned Peter since he was talking about something different. Fun fact: Peter Geoghegan is a PostgreSQL major contributor per https://www.postgresql.org/community/contributors/ https://www.postgresql.org/community/contributors/, pretty sure he's a committer as well.
- GordonS 6y agoI did notice they had written "pg_stat_activity", but assumed it was a typo, since the original question was about running the Percona extension. Never thought to check their profile; seems like crossed wires.
- craigkerstiens 6y agoThis is something we're actively looking to change with Crunchy Bridge (https://www.crunchydata.com/products/crunchy-bridge/ https://www.crunchydata.com/products/crunchy-bridge/). We've started with PL/R and PL/Python in addition to the standard set of extensions. We're in the process of evaluating our next set of extensions including pg_repack, zhparser, pgroonga, and possibly pgsync. Longer term we're exploring the ability to bring your own and already have some thoughts on how to make that possible.
