I suspect a large part of why so many shows fail according to Netflix is that people have already been bitten once or more by cancelled shows and they'll now wait for a few seasons to see if the show is rolling before watching. It's a downward spiral and either it keeps on until Netflix's demise, or they break out of it by committing on their shows.
