The thing that's a tiebreaker for me is grid-gap (and recently, its shorthand gap). Uncountable hours have been wasted making two elements separate from each other for a few pixels. Still today, the techniques used by Bootstrap are still used, altough a bit less hacky with calc(), but still we're relying a lot on negative margins. With gap, making a gutter is trivial.
