the holy grail of AI, it's ultimate goal, is AGI, which is quite opposite of human focus.

- arethuza 6y ago"the holy grail of AI, it's ultimate goal, is AGI" I don't think it is an explicit goal for many people - most people seem to be focusing on using 'AI' techniques to solve narrowly defined practical problems that were difficult or impossible with other techniques. Edit: AGI was perhaps more of an explicit goal during the phase of "good old fashioned" symbolic AI the peaked in the 1980s and early 1990s.
- ganzuul 6y agoFull AGI has little economic use aside from a brief resurgence of slavery. Its real value lies in creating an alien, terrestrial, intelligence to which we can compare and learn about ourselves. Philosophically AGI is ancient and has always been about humans.
