This _opinion_ can be countered with a single ancedote-
I got a job because of my side projects and would be unemployed if I didn't work on side projects.
Now, who's opinion is correct?
- matz1 6y agoBoth are correct
- gallamine 6y agoFirst job or subsequent jobs?
- xenihn 6y agoThe best thing is to do both. Work at a top company, and have a side project that you can discuss with hiring managers.
- borroka 6y agoIf you think in terms of probability, there is no conflict. And that is also why "never do this if you want to get that" is often a necessary, but tautologically inaccurate, simplification.
- tharne 6y agoMy experience is identical to yours. Both my first programming gig as well as subsequent advancements has been a result of my side projects.
