Portland protesters topple statues of Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln
- f154hfds 6y agoThe linked article [1] provides some context I wasn't aware of on Abraham Lincoln's involvement (linked from OregonLive). Maybe I'm totally misreading it, but it reads at first glance favorable to Lincoln, commuting 90% of the sentences. Perhaps criticizing Lincoln for the startling lack of due process is unfair here or do I misunderstand? Good governments distractedly do bad things during major wars (wars that threaten the survival of the state and/or culture) in areas irrelevant to the primary mission of survival. The US during the Civil War (1861-1865, most US fatalities in any war). The Brits during WWII. Media coverage of Portland suggests Portland has moved from that quirky place with weird donuts to the land of perpetually over-indulgent parenting.
