Show HN: Remote Compilation for Your Build
- raxrb 6y agoHi, I have created an npm package that rsync the code to a remote server and compiles the code over there and exposes the product URL. Please let me know what you think?
- grandrew 6y agoCan you pls do distcc? Thanks
- tbalt 6y agoLooks really nice. However I am not sure how much of my privacy is protected when I submit the code to your server. Is it possible to have the code be encrypted somehow?
- DarthGhandi 6y agoYou are talking about something along the lines of fully homomorphic encryption there. There's no CI/CD provider that can give you that. There's barely anyone on Earth that can run you a Hello World with FHE, let alone offering it as a service to build binaries.
- 2fast4you 6y agoSure, but a CI provider like GitLab provides some assurances that the compiler is not compromised. I can use my own container for the build if I want to
- andrejguran 6y agohow do you know that the underlying infrastructure is not compromised? Your files are still on their filesystem and all data is in their memory that can be accessed by any employee (in theory)
- raxrb 6y agoFull Encryption is not possible. It it similar to people making private Github repos or Github Actions.
- anuila 6y agoQuick suggestion: If you're doing demo videos, start from a clean desktop, better yet, a fresh new user. It's weird to see your favorites.
- raxrb 6y agothanks. I will keep this in mind
- lykr0n 6y agoI've had the same idea for Rust builds where builds and artifacts are stored on a remote server. Looks interesting, but devil will be the details.
- raxrb 6y agoYes, There are so many things to take care of. Are you interested to give it a try?
