- me_me_me 6y agoHere is my little thing that always irks me. THERE IS NO NOBEL PRICE IN ECONOMICS! This is a highjacked name so Econ people feel like they are worth something. Can we please stop calling it that? One can't just slap Mercedes logo on your car and start selling 'Mercedes cars'.

- tephra 6y agoI think that generally foreign (I.e non-Swedish in my case) media does not really distinguish them. I read Nyt, washpo, the guardian and le monde and IIRC all of them had headlines similar to "The winners of the Nobel prize in Economy". Swedish media in general will say "The winners of the Sverige Riksbank price in Economic science in memory of Alfred Nobel" (or just "the prize in economics).
- probably_wrong 6y agoI think this is one of those "technically right but wrong in all aspects that matter" type of facts. True, there is no Nobel Prize in Economics. That said, the Nobel Prize website has a page dedicated to it, it is listed right under the Peace Prize in their main navigation, and the winners are included in the "597 Nobel prizes" in their "Quick facts" section. If the Nobel Committee doesn't care about making a difference, and is for all practical purposes a Nobel Prize with the clear endorsement of the Nobel Committee, what else is there to say? - dakdak 6y agoSince the prize is awarded with the same criteria and by the very same Swedish Academy of Science, and is fully endorsed by the Nobel organization, a closer analogy would be Mercedes building cars not from the original factory, but from a new one funded by outside capital, with the same specs and with Mercedes branding.
