I don't love a lot of things Apple does either, but about half the items in the complaint list can be turned off or hidden. So, I'm not sure if I'd give up all the things the author misses for the other half of the list. I also have a thinkpad, and I like to boot into Ubuntu for some tasks. One improvement I'd love there would be the ability to boot linux, or any OS, from an SD Card. Then I can have a number of different OSs on different cards and switch between them with very little setup overhead.
