Mercedes-Benz teases ‘highest-efficiency electric car’ with 750 miles range
- informatimago 6y agoWhat a bunch of fuckers! "They haven’t disclosed when they plan to unveil the Vision EQXX electric prototype." Not even a commercial product, a prototype, and they don't know when they'll be able to show it! What they've been doing for a hundred of years! I'll buy a Tesla.
- merb 6y agowell most german car manufacturer have a production ready ev. even mercedes has one, well they were pretty late compared to all others but the eqv is a ev that has a very different market than all other companies. and if I would have the money I would buy an vw id.4
- jakehop 6y ago"This incredible range will be achieved through efficency improvements rather than just a bigger battery pack." What an interesting statement! "Bigger" – compared to what? A Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD? That can do around 296 miles (EPA/Highway) – so the Mercedes-Benz will need to be 2,5x as efficient. The drag coefficient is one area that could be improved. C(d) for the Model 3 is 0.23, which is pretty good for a production car. Lower than that and you are in experimental territory – which is probably how this project might end up for Mercedes-Benz. Not bad, because these types of projects usually teach us something new. But not good, since this will be another "promise" broken, due to this inflationary PR-approach.
- Gravityloss 6y agoRear wheel covers? The Lightyear One has 725 km of range and is quite optimized, using only 8.3 kWh/100 km. Mercedes' 1200 km seems like a lot! https://lightyear.one/ https://lightyear.one/
- jakehop 6y agoInteresting (albeit expensive). I usually take any specs provided by the manufacturer with a grain of salt – including the idea, that you can get 1,2kW/hr of energy from the (static and encased!) solar panels on the roof alone! That seems quite far fetched, to say the least.
- mensetmanusman 6y agoIt could be very high if they started it at the top of Everest and only sold it as going down hill.
- commonturtle 6y agoI think at the 600 mile range electric cars would seriously start to get tempting. 600 mile range + supercharging (something like +30% charge in 1h) and I'd buy in a heartbeat.
- gargalatas 6y agoThose old automakers are really good at prototypes. They never make it to the road though.
- ntsplnkv2 6y agoThey have perverse incentives - e.g. ICE SUVs and Trucks selling way better than anything else, means no need to invest as much right now in electric aside from high performance scenarios.
- throwawaymanbot 6y agolisten... give me 750miles range sure.. But PLEASE dont make it look like something Homer Simpson drew on a napkin, and a German engineer was made to slightly improve looks wise, as best as he could.
