It makes sense insofar as it's designed to reduce the odds of successfully obtaining an H1B.
Remember, this was shepherded by Stephen Miller and others in the administration whose explicit aim is reducing immigration by every lever available.
- username90 6y agoHow would this reduce immigration? 85k people will still move to US from H1B every year after these changes, it just will be different 85k people from before unless they change the number.
- afterburner 6y agoThank you. People thinking this is some kind of "good move" need to try to remember what administration they're talking about. If you don't understand the play, it's not because you're not being played.
- read_if_gay_ 6y agoTrump cannot ever do anything good and if it seems like he did then there’s some satanic ulterior motive. Seems like a balanced and healthy view.
- thundergolfer 6y agoThat’s a misrepresentation of their point. They’re merely suggesting that when considering this immigration policy it should be taken into account that the administration creating it has white nationalists as policy advisers.
- read_if_gay_ 6y agoNope. GP is very clearly asserting that Trump is playing everyone: > If you don't understand the play, it's not because you're not being played.
- afterburner 6y agoIf an anti-immigration admin makes a move that seems pro-immigration, be suspicious. At the very least it is only pro-corporate.
- koboll 6y agoYou don't need to believe the administration is Satanic, white nationalist, or whatever else. It is politically advantageous for them if fewer immigrants enter the United States, because immigrants tend to vote for the other side. And so they wish to reduce immigration. Like everything else in politics, it is simply about power.
- 0xy 6y agoH1Bs aren't really immigrants, in fact the visa explicitly forbids permanent residency.
