Journalling Tool Suggestions?

What do you use for journalling, especially w.r.t your day job? I was thinking of starting, with the idea that it would help me post-process my days better and remember what I learned, and I'm curious how other people do it. Ideally it would be a tool that provides basic search and is also backed by something open (eg text files) that I can export easily.
