Facebook says ad-supported model is ‘under assault’ amid Apple privacy changes
- HappySweeney 6y agoThe guy in the article makes it sound like a bad thing, and implies that should targetted advertising go away, so will all the internet properties we love and enjoy. My guess is that Apple (and Samsung) will eventually go ahead with this change, but by then some other workaround will be built, rendering said change cosmetic (without the general public's knowledge or consent, of course).
- corobo 6y agoNot a chance on the Samsung part. They're just as creepy as Facebook but with more hardware in your home https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=24662353 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=24662353
- olliej 6y agoYou can have ads, you just don’t get to violate user privacy. AdWords became big without invasive profiling, it was once google bought double click that they went all in on destroying any hope for privacy on the internet.
- corobo 6y agoGood. You got too greedy with our data and are now seeing the results of that. Think ahead next time.
- throwaway189262 6y agoThe ad industry thrived for centuries without any personalized targeting. It's only in the last 15 years that ads invade privacy with tracking better than the FBI had in the 80's. Personalized tracking needs to go. It's a privacy invasion straight out of dystopian sci fi novels
