These jobs are tech roles in non-tech companies. Boeing, United, McDonalds, Koch Industries... all are big in the midwest, all need lots of tech folks, none are particularly techy companies. All the really good tech people I've met either (1) leave for SV/NY or (2) work for quant trading shops. For context, FAANG job postings in the midwest are all satellite-office positions: they'll hire good engineers here, but you're kinda working remote in the downtown office at a certain point.
