Its a cult. They have to defend the slightest perceived threat to the brand.
Which has some good engineering, but many missteps in manufacturing. When some other established manufacturer puts some real engineering effort into a vehicle, teslas many flaws will become more apparent.
When the home improvement store wood being used in manufacturing came up a few weeks ago, https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=24424567 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=24424567 people seemed to ignore that it's necessary and normal to spend 10s of hours disassembling your car to fix panel alignment issues upon delivery.
- zalkota 6y agoGood thing they aren’t a car company! They’re an energy company.
- ghgdynb1 6y agoI wonder if this isn’t the differentiation though. No other company is willing to sink anywhere near as much into paying engineering salaries as Tesla. I remember choosing majors and realizing that as a computer science major I could do political science, but it would be a lot harder to go in the other direction. Maybe there’s something similar going on here: it’s a lot easier for a company that’s great at engineering to learn manufacturing than for a company that’s great at manufacturing to learn engineering.
