How is “Kakoune” pronounced? Ka-koon? Ka-koon-ey? Kak-oon? Kak-oon-ey? Or something else?
- andrewshadura 6y agoCocoon.
- jamesrcole 6y agoReally? I never would have guessed. It’s probably different for other accents, but with an Australian accent a word spelled like that would never be pronounced like “cocoon”.
- andrewshadura 6y agoThat's surprising, since I'd expect Australian accents to pronounce the first "o" as a schwa (think the second "o" in "doctor"), which is in a way similar to the French "a".
- sullyj3 6y agoI'm australian, and I pronounce them identically, with the schwa
- jamesrcole 6y agoIt’s the “Kak” bit. We’d say it in a way that rhymes with “back”. But we’d say “Coc” in “Cocoon” in a way that sounds like “cook”.
- jamesrcole 6y ago...for the record, I got that slightly wrong. Australian pronounciation of the initial "Co" in "Cocoon" is more like "Kuh".
- reyqn 6y agoKak-oon (https://github.com/mawww/kakoune/blob/master/doc/pages/faq.asciidoc https://github.com/mawww/kakoune/blob/master/doc/pages/faq.a...)
- jamesrcole 6y agoThanks. I did look for a FAQ but could find it. It doesn’t seem to be linked from their read me documentation https://github.com/mawww/kakoune https://github.com/mawww/kakoune
- amake 6y agoWow I had no idea. I assumed it was Japanese: 書こうね ("let's write")
