You're right, but if you asked me to do something in GnuCash which I never used or do the equivalent in Excel with formulas I'm already familiar with, I'd go with Excel in a pinch. This is why Excel is so well known, because once you get the hang of it, it becomes a great tool for something small. It scales poorly though.
