Good point with regards to the exploding offer. I know a bunch of engineers from school who have been left with a sour taste in their mouth for certain companies for not being given reasonable time to assess their offers. If you are extending offers mid school year for a job starting in 4, 5, or 6 months, issuing an almost immediate deadline for response doesn't help the process; it just ensures that you pissed off a qualified candidate who will almost always will question their choice & that you will have to interview more people.
