Ask HN: What are the best resources to learn app development for Macs?
There are a lot of articles, tutorials and courses when it comes to iOS. But we have struggling a bit to find good ones for Mac
- nikivi 6y agoTake a look at Jordan Singer's SwiftUI apps. All are open source, most are macOS apps. https://ibuildmyideas.com https://ibuildmyideas.com
- cpach 6y agoThe source code for NetNewsWire might be a useful starting point: https://github.com/Ranchero-Software/NetNewsWire https://github.com/Ranchero-Software/NetNewsWire
- cpach 6y agoI’m kinda bummed that you only got two replies in total... Mac development is a little bit of a lost art these days. There are some very skilled people out there who knows it. But not so many who choose to learn it though these days. All focus is on mobile...
- mailarchis 6y agoThanks cpach. I'm still holding on to some hope on more answers pouring in.I realized that the focus has shifted massively to mobile or web apps. But I still feel there are a lot of cool stuff you can and should build as desktop apps.
- cpach 6y agoIndeed. A well-crafted Mac app is a joy to use. For example Acorn.
- mailarchis 6y agoI will check out Acorn. By any chance do you remember mailboxapp Mac app? It was great
- cpach 6y agoNice. Never tried it though.
- mailarchis 6y agoThanks cpach, nikivi for your pointers
- mjturner 6y agoI can highly recommend Paul Hudson's courses, eg, Hacking with macOS -https://www.hackingwithswift.com/store/hacking-with-macos https://www.hackingwithswift.com/store/hacking-with-macos. They are heavily Swift-focused by very good.
